I have been cooking since before I can remember. My family did everything around cooking and eating. As I grew I didn’t think that knowing how to cook was all that important and even thought that it was a hindrance to my career goals. I attended the University of South Carolina and worked as a teacher Assistant for the early child development center for the entire time I was in school. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Information Management and eventually became a Systems Engineer. In that role I would often hide from others that cooked and cooked well because I thought that they wouldn’t take me seriously as a woman IT professional if they knew I was also domesticated. This all changed in 2007 when I became a Pampered Chef consultant. I soon discovered so many professional women who longed to learn the skills that I thought was a hindrance to my career. I found joy in helping women see food and cooking in a different way.

In 2015 this turned into including kids and I then started to recall how much I loved working with kids and familes during college. So I thought wouldn’t it be great if I could merge my love of children and cooking together? So in January of 2016 I started a Federal Non-Profit Company, Kiah’s Kitchen Cooks, that has the goal to use cooking to empower kids, parents, and adult mentors. As head Culinary instructor of Kiah’s Kitchen Cooks I go into classrooms, homes and organizations and encourage parent, teachers and children to use the kitchen to bridge the gap in learning and social interactions. In 2015 this turned into including kids and I then started to recall how much I loved working with kids during college.
